I know that there are several starter packages out there but I have not tried it. You are right. It does look like a lot of fun.

It is awesome...I have never used the "proper" set up.....but then....I have never been "realy" bow fishing either....we used to get the cat fish to come to the top with feed and then I'd get on top of a round bale of hay and shoot'em when they were close to the bank....the arrow would go through them and stick in the mud...thus...I had skewered catfish....I can tell ya that you dont need a sight, you dont want to take your $500 compound out there and you'll need a bow fishing arrow....these are NOTHING like the ones we hunt animals with...these are about 30" long...and weigh a ton....they have a removable barb on them and an area to attach a "reel" to...the reel seat screws into the stabilizer threads...there are some folks who do this at night with generators and massive lights on small boats and shoot gar and carp...shooting "game" fish is illegal....but I know as a child...stick'in cats (here's one for ya kitty) was a LOT of fun.

Come on up here and Ill show yall. You know its my favorite thing. I wouldnt go with a "starter package" They tend to be remedial stuff that wont handle a good night. My set up right now is a Martin Rebel recurve (like 150 bucks) a reel seat the screws into the stabilizer hole with a Synergy reel loaded with 200# braided line. I have got to where I will only shoot Muzzy Fish Arrows, usually the carp heads. Ive been out a couple times this year, but havent been to Santee yet, just playing on the lake infront of the house.
