My friend is inletting the stock for the lock today. With the heat now it looks like he'll be spending more time on it. Said it will be 2 or 3 months now. I'm betting it will be sooner. Gonna go ahead and send him the money in the morning so as not to spend it on something else.

He's sighting it in now. Then has to brown the hardware and oil the stock. Pic I saw of the target is a 5 shot group in a ragged hole at 50 yards. Wants to get it zero'd for 100 yards. I'm thinking in a couple weeks it will be here. Got to order a mould now. Held off til I saw what it likes...looks like a .395 ball.

Sounds like you'll be seeing it before long! From what I've seen, most .40's are great shooters. I had one with the old Douglas XX barrel, and it liked a .395 ball. I sent a check to Tip Curtis last Saturday for a new .40 half-stock I picked out in his shop. It's "in the white", so I'll have a little work to do. I'm looking forward to getting it.

quigley, I managed to take a few pictures today. It's "in the white" but I'm sure you know what that means. I had the option of buying the parts and doing my best to make a decent rifle from them, or just going ahead and buying a nice rifle made by a guy who knows what he's doing for just a little bit more. It's a Claro walnut stock with a .40 caliber GM barrel, Davis triggers, and a small Siler flint. I'm seriously thinking about getting a .54 Jaeger from him a little later. Tell me what you think:

Beautiful rifle FW...don't know how I missed your pics. Far as mine...he'll probably be shipping it to me in the next few days. Maybe I'll get him to e-mail me some pics of it so I can post some decent pictures. No digital camera here.

Thanks quigley! I'm looking forward to seeing some pictures! I shot the rifle for the first time today. Dang it's fast!!!! It's got "primitive" sights on it, so I had to file the front and move the back to get it sighted in. The first groups were kinda loose and about 5 inches low and 1 inch right, but the last group (at 26 yards) was dead on and I could cover it with a nickel. I had a couple of "flash in the pans" on about the 18th shot, and it seemed like the breech area was fouling up a little bit and blocking the touchhole. You can see in the pictures that the touchhole is pretty close to the end of the breech plug, so I guess I'm just gonna have to be a little picky about that. I shot about 25 shots today, and it looks like it's gonna be a tack driver.

Jeff, that's an awesome looking gun!!! I'd be afraid to take something that purty out in the woods.
